Description

Minted in the 1800s, the Indian Head Penny adds a piece of American history to the collectible black wood handled pocket knife . The 3.75 inch stainless steel bladed knife is the perfect gift for an outdoorsman, coin collector or Mr. Fix It with the Engravable plate suitable for monogramming. The knife with alloy antiqued handle measures 8.5 inches long by 1.13 inches wide. It easily fits into a pocket and is 4.75 inches when folded closed. The Indian Head Penny was first minted in 1859 and is composed of .880 copper. The Indian Head Cent was designed by James B. Longacre. Longacre decided to use Liberty on the obverse of the coin. Legend states that he modeled Liberty after his daughter Sarah wearing a headdress of an Indian Chief who visited the mint. No one knows if Sarah was the model as James B. Longacre once stated Venus, a Greek statue, was his inspiration for the design. The reverse was first designed to resemble laurel and then was changed to oak. The pocket knife comes in a blue pouch and includes a Certificate of Authenticity. Mint marks and years will vary from 1859 to 1899.
